Chemical fertilizers are synthetic, inorganic substances added to soil to enhance crop growth. They are composed of harmful acids and chemicals that can disrupt soil microorganisms crucial for natural plant development. Despite having a consistent composition and rapid reaction compared to organic fertilizers, chemical fertilizers provide short-term benefits. In Sri Lanka, a majority of growers use chemical fertilizers to achieve higher, consistent, and faster crop yields.
Organic fertilizer is derived from biological residues or by-products of organisms, offering a sustainable alternative for crop growth. While it contains essential nutrients like phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium, their proportions may be uneven.
